Just messing around with some ideas, and even though I plan to do different/better, more intricate music (in other words, this is premature), I liked what I got, and hope you do too....

Wow!!! LOVE it!! And the music is PERFECT for this! Very haunting and beautiful at the same time. Some day I want to see the aurora! I think you should keep the music.

Wow Gene!!! That is really beautiful.... Would love to know how you captured it and how late it comes out.
Was in Tasmania for a month in the winter a few years back and tried to see the Aurora Australis every night, but no luck. I hope I get to see this once in my lifetime.... Txs for sharing!

Thanks! I think I should keep the music too....but maybe next time use a recording that is more polished and less in I was just test-recording....

As far as frequency of occurrence, it is supposedly going to be at a high activity cycle (11 years, I think) THIS winter. But the moods of the sun are right now, it's actually nice outside at night, not too cold, totally clear, with a moon, but ... no aurora. At least not here. It can even happen in summer, but you can't see it...if that makes any sense...because it never gets dark. One never really knows, but there are several websites that forecast likely displays.

Shot with the FS700 at 9, 12, or 15db gain, f2.8, 1 or 2 frames per second, with a shutter speed of 1 or 2/sec depending. Lot of push/pull in post with noise reduction. For this video I used the prepared clips I have on P5, and messed with them even more, including speed, since I like it slower - one of the slower-moving shot is about as close to real time as I can get. These were actually pretty dim displays....I've seen much brighter, so I'm hoping that the next recordings I make have better definition (see how the sky is glowing too?) This is a lot brighter than the eye can see these displays.

Thanks be sure, I'd like nothing more than to have a camera that could capture total natural aurora, but I think this will have to do....faster lens maybe....

I can't wait to do more! (I should go check now, actually...)
