Chicago's Landmark Wrigley Building Clock Tower Day to Night
The clock tower of the landmark Wrigley building in time-lapse shows the time from day to night.
Completed in 1921, the Wrigley building was the first office building built north of the Chicago River. The north tower of the Wrigley building houses one of the largest outdoor clocks in Chicago. The tower's design was copied from the Giralda bell tower of the Cathedral of Seville in Seville, Spain. Built by architectural firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, the architecture is a mixture of Gothic and Baroque styles in white, glazed terra-cotta. The 121 meter (398 foot) landmark tower caps Chicago's famed Magnificent Mile.
The Wrigley clock tower is one of several other copies of Spain's Giralda tower, including the Giralda Tower in Kansas City, Missouri, the Giraldilla tower in Lebrija, Spain and the clock tower of the Ferry Building in San Francisco, California. The Wrigley tower has four clocks, each measuring 6 meters (20 feet) across with hands that are 2.8 meters (9 feet) and 1.8 meters (6 feet) long.
