Point Lobos State Park is close to the town of Carmel and has been called the "greatest meeting of land and water in the world" by landscape artist Francis McComas. Famous for its spectacular beauty, the reserve has over 250 species of animals and birds as well as the endangered Monterey Cypress. The surrounding ocean has spectacular kelp forests below and is a marine protected area.
