Description

Activists demand the U.S. government free Mumia Abu-Jamal from jail. Mr. Abu-Jamal serving a life sentence in prison for the 1981 murder of a Philadelphia police officer. He was sentenced to death at his first trial in July 1982, but the death sentence has been overturned. Before his arrest, he was an activist and radio journalist who became President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. He was also a member of the Black Panther Party until 1970. His friends and supporters believe Mr. Abu-Jamal is innocent of murder, and say he didn’t receive a fair trial.
