Mendocino and Sonoma are on the Northern California coast with one of the main highways being Coast highway 1, the Pacific coast highway. The climate is temperate with lush forests and green rolling hills of the California Coastal range. The coastline is rugged steep and rocky and buffeted by high seas at times. All roads into the area twist and wind and travel is slow but well worth seeing. The weather changes quickly from rainy to sunny.
