Description

Most who saw this snake at the lake would believe it to be the venomous Water Moccasin (AKA Cottonmouth). It's no wonder since both the Moccasin and the non dangerous Midland Watersnake do share a range, and look similar. Best way to tell the difference is to look at the head. If they have easily seen vertical stripes on the jaw they are harmless watersnakes.
