Description
A Shinkansen (bullet train) arrives at Osaka station in Japan.
The ‘Shinkansen’, also referred to as ‘bullet train’, is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies. The network currently consists of over 2,300 kilometers of lines with maximum speeds ranging between 240 and 300 km/h.
Shinkansen literally means new trunk line, meaning to the tracks, but the name is widely used inside and outside Japan to refer to the trains as well as the system as a whole.
