Description

Steep mountain grade coal fired steam engine railroad. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNG) a narrow gauge heritage railroad that runs 45.5 miles of track between Durango and Silverton, in Colorado. Federally designated National Historic Landmark. Vintage Coal fired steam engine at terminal. The route has been in continuous use since 1881. Originally used to transport silver ore to smelters. Many Hollywood movies have been made using the tracks and historic train. These authentic coal fired steam driven engines and rolling stocks have been restored to original conditions. The train takes 3 1/2 hours each way with a 2 hour stop in the old mining community of Silverton. The train stops twice to fill with water from mountain streams. Tourist and tourism is a key income for the two towns. HD 1080 video. Don Despain of Rekindle Photo. 172
