Description

Tourist walkway at an African Penguin (Spheniscus demersus) colony near Boulders Beach in Cape Town, South Africa. The colony is in a residential area of Cape Town and this is one of the few places in the world where the Penguins can be observed at such close quarters.
The African Penguins are only found in the Southern African waters. They are also known as the Jackass Penguin for their donkey-like bray. Their main source of food are fish like anchovies and pilchards that they catch out in False Bay, but commercial fisheries and climate change are affecting their preferred prey. The African Penguin is listed as an endangered species.

Note: these are not captive animals in a zoo or theme park - these Penguins are wild and filmed on location at their colony in South Africa without any interference from our film crew.
