Earth Day commemoration 2010 takes place at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv. More than 10,000 people gathered for a concert powered by dozens of cyclists using pedal power to generate electricity. Local authorities turned off the lights at public facilities, including the city hall, at 8 P.M. The event included performance by Israeli rock stars Rami Fortis, Shlomi Shaban and Geva Alon, Gabso and the Mirrors. Speakers included Mayor Ron Huldai, and Minister of Environmental Protection, Gilad Erdan. Erdan highlighted the need for clean air, clean oceans and more bicycle lanes. "The revolution starts with you." He said that the country's politicians needed to understand that environmental issues were a "priority for the people of Israel."
