The Chanel Islands were the only British soil occupied by the German's during World War 2 and Hitler wasted a large amount of resources building defences on the Islands to turn them into an impenetrable fortress, determined the British would want to reoccupy them as a matter of pride. However the Allied forces bypassed the Islands completely, concentrating on establishing a foothold in mainland Europe.
