Fun on GIANT SLIDE Circa 1968 (Vintage Film Home Movie). The Giant Slide, yellow and bright, brings laughter from all the kids (generations of people going down the slide, grandparents to children)…stands out from the crowd. The idea of a slide about 150 feet long, 50 feet high and 30 feet wide was born. An architect was consulted whereby they discussed the idea of a Giant Slide. The first slide was built at the Orange Show in San Bernardino, CA . It was a big success, but they weren’t happy with this original design, so back to the architect. In September of 1968 the second slide was built at the Pomona Fairgrounds (where it remains to this day). This time they were happy with the results. Over the next four years, 42 slides were built, one in almost every state, and including Canada and Australia. In 1969, the Giant Slide was selected as the #1 fair attraction in America.
