African Mahogany (Khaya ivorensis)
Tree, evergreen broadleaf

Origin : West Equatorial Africa (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria)
Environment : Equatorial forests, riverine fringe forests
Climate : warm; humid

African names : Akuk, Bandoro, Degema, Acajou, Bisselon, Bitehi, Diala iri, Eri Kiree, Ogwango

Notes :
The African Mahogany is one of the largest jungle trees, often 45 m. tall. It is widely diffused, in several local varieties, throughout the Equatorial region of West Africa. It can grow in a multi-trunk shape. The scarcity of Honduras true Mahogany has led to an increasing use of African Mahogany for timber wood use. The wood is excellent for furniture and boat building.
