United Nations Established

(194)

On October 24, 1945, The United Nations was officially born with 51 original member states. The organization was established after World War II with the aim of preventing future wars, promoting human rights, and improving social progress. Today, the UN’s work is guided by 17 Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by all member states in 2015. The UN General Assembly (UNGA) - which includes all 193 current member states - convenes in annual sessions at its New York City headquarters.
