Blackmagic 2.5K camera price drop

I'm sure you guys have heard the news but in case you haven't
Grant Petty of BMC announced last night the original 2.5K BMC is reduced to $1995
$1000 off the original price.
I think this was damage control for all the bitching people were doing on the late shipping of the pocket camera and 4K camera but what a great deal to get a camera with a great image.

B&H still has the old price but I'm sure they will update their website today.

Myself, I'm not interested in the 2.5K as much as I want the pocket camera.
I may get the 4K some time in the future.

BMC said all orders not shipped will be at the lower price. No word on the 4K price. He said they just received their first batch of 4k sensors so they can now work on the software. I agree, no real reason for buying the 2.5K, a wait and see on the 4K and see what it really can do after they fully test the production sensors.

I thought the 4K was $3995?

A fantastic deal. Has made me consider the 2.5K camera now, where I was just looking at getting the pocket camera.

Well the 2.5K was $2995, now $1995 ... is it possible to see a price reduction in 4K? ... probably not until the first release is well over.

Oh, doubt it. The first 4K cameras aren't even shipped yet.
Maybe next year when the dust settles and they come out with another camera. LOL

I'm looking for a new travel camera and considered the Mark3, it seems a bit large and not very practical to handle in some situations. The Panasonic GH3 seemed a decent alternative. The price drop of this BMC is now also very interesting. I wonder what is next to make me postpone a new investment.

If you postpone buying a tool until a new tool comes out, you'll never build anything. :)

There really isn't anything in that price point that will give you the high rate low loss (or no loss if you shoot raw) codec and that amazing dynamic range.

stefhoffer, if you are looking for a travel one get the pocket camera from BM, it's only $1k
