Nikon D90

Hey I have a question for all you camera pro's. I don't know any thing about them, nothing at all. So sorry in advance for that. The Nikon D90 can shoot HD video would it work for doing stock video? If so how would you rate it, as far as how well it would work or would not.

That's almost like asking which truck is best .. Chevy or Ford .. oh ya I guess Dodge can be in there too. Same as far as Canon 5D MII versus Nikon D90 as far as using either or both for video footage. I have heard that the Nikon just doesn't make the cut as far as HD video quality whereas the 5D does. Heck I dunno, I guess I shouldn't say cause I really didn't answer your question. Go buy a Ford and be happy ;)

5D does 1080p, Nikon does 720p. I wouldn't buy either if you plan on submitting videos. If you are doing photo, either of them will be great for you

5D is that a Nikon? I don't want 720p. I would like the ability to do video, and photos. My girl lets me use her cameras when ever I want, but she does not have any thing that can do video. So some thing that does both would be great.

Bryan,
Take a look at this thread about the Canon 5D. Also check the links in the thread with some sample video.

Hey thanks Jake very informative "captures at 30fps for 13 minutes of 1080 HD footage" 13 minutes is a ton of 10-15 second clips. Whats your take on the dust is it really a big deal?

Also what is the cheep alternative for getting into shooting stock 1080P HD, that still has good quality.

Dust on sensors is and will always be a problem anytime you have interchangeable lenses. I have the canon 20D and 5D and on f 14 and up to f32 if I do not clean the sensor and if the photo is a solid light color (sky) dust spots will show. My 5D came directly from the factory with a few minor dust bunnies on the sensor. Same issue with Nikon or any of them. As long as f stop is f/10 or lower you will never see them. There are a couple of commercial cleaning kits that safely will allow you to clean it. Do not try Scotch tape or cotton swabs, cost me over $350 to replace a sensor because of that. Good cleaning kits are around $50.

Same issue with videos through a changeable lens DLSR or video camera, something ya just have to live with. The built in dust vibration systems help some but not completely. So dust is not a big deal, it can be avoided by not taking lens off in a dusty area also.

Alternative ... Canon HV20 or HV30, both great cameras and the HV20 can be found pretty cheap, much less than the Canon 5D MKII

Im still waiting for someone else to get the 5d so I can get a thorough review. But according to my personal research, it is much clearer than any other video camera, because the sensor size is massive,,, and as of now no other camera has a sensor size comparable. However, the video is compressed heavily which means if you increase the contrast in post you will probably see artifacts (But actually I know how to get rid of grain or artifacts in after effects so I don't care)

Also the Nikon has some bad technical problems when you move it side to side the footage looks all weird.
