How to add keywords?

kb1 20 Feb 2009 22:14
Newbie to this pond thing - how in the world do I add tags or key words to the footage I just uploaded?

Thanks

Hi,
You can click on "MyPond" at the top of the page, and click on "my Uploads"
Make sure in the box you select "Write Info" and click search.
That will bring up all of your unfinished clips.
You can click the edit button for each and add tags, price etc.
Then click submit to curator.

Oh, one thing about the keywords, don't go over 25 words.

Pretty easy here to edit things.

Hope this helps,
Jake

Hi kb1,

Jakes right - and there IS some code on P5 that was written a few months ago that is supposed to help the ranking of any clip that has 25 keywords or less.

However, if you find 25 words too restrictive (as I do!) bear in mind that there is no official limit on the number of keywords at P5.

Most important is that your keywords are accurate and relevant.

Welcome to P5. :0)

Can someone explain the format when adding key words... I have been told several formats.
Word,SpaceWord
Word,Word
Is there a distinct format or is it just me being picky ?

orbitrob, sorry but there is a limit on the number of keywords and it is 25. That number was set "07"and if you go over the limit you'll find yourself at the bottom of the ranking. If you wish a copy I can provide you with it.

Edward there isn't any distinct format just make sure your keywords are relevant to the clip.

First, a big thanks to all of you for choosing to offer your content on Pond5.com. We're delighted with the incredible talent we have on board, and we're committed to bringing you the absolute best resource for buying and selling stock footage on the web. Lots of exciting stuff is coming over the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled!

This email provides an update of Pond5 activities, and some changes on the site that may affect you. Please take a moment to read through it.

Join us at NAB!

As you may have heard, Pond5 is an exhibitor at the NAB annual event in Las Vegas from April 14-17. We'll be presenting Pond5 to a huge audience of production and post production professionals. If you'll be attending, be sure to stop by and say hello our booth is SL 10730 in the South Lower Hall.

Pond5 1.0 It's Almost Here!

We're hard at work prepping the launch of version 1.0 of Pond5.com, and it's just about here. The 1.0 will entail streamlining of the site design and improvement of the user experience. It's been a long time coming, and we appreciate your patience. In preparation of this, there are a few changes we'll be making ...

Price Rounding

To present prices more clearly and quickly to buyers, we'll be rounding off the prices of all clips to an even dollar amount. So, rather than a clip selling for $29.99, it will sell for $30. This will take effect on Monday, April 14, and will affect all clips on the system.

Tag Cleanup

During the next few months, we'll be cleaning up clip keywords and categories for all of Pond5 content. Many of you have tagged your clips a little too enthusiastically and placed unnecessary, inaccurate and/or unrelated tags on clips. As a result, when buyers search for something, they must wade through a lot of clips that don't match. To address this problem, we've made two adjustments:

From now on, each clip will be limited to 3 categories. For existing clips, our curators will address this, so there's nothing you need to do regarding content that is already uploaded. Of course, if you'd like to go in and edit the categories on your clips, feel free.

Clips are now limited to 25 keywords. For clips with over 25 keywords, we're asking you to edit out the least relevant ones. Beginning on May 10, we will impose a penalty in Search Results, so that the more keywords beyond 25 that a clip has, the lower it will rank in search results. We hope this will nudge you to go through and remove unnecessary keywords.

Quality Check

You should also know that we are in the process of updating and tightening our content approval standards. As a result, you may see more rejections in your content review site mails. But, you can also expect significantly improved sales due to a higher quality selection of clips on the site overall.

What a year. And it's only just beginning.

For your perspective, in a year, Pond5 has seen a five-fold increase in average monthly clip sales and a 300% increase in new user sign ups. And the growth is accelerating fast. With your help, we have created a fantastic stock footage resource and community - a true marketplace, which adds real value for both buyers and sellers. Your continued support and participation is appreciated, and it is critical to Pond5's success.

Thanks for the heads-up Jason by sharing a copy of this newsletter.

A couple of things.

1. There's no mention of a 25 keyword limit anywhere in the FAQs on P5. Unless you were a contributing artist on or before April 12 - you wouldn't have received this letter, and you wouldn't know that the limit was 'P5 endorsed'. Other than discussion in threads, how are new contributors expected to know and/or abide by a 25 cap if its not in the FAQs?

2. While I do agree that being too 'loose' with keyword meanings is not cool (and I for one have been reviewing and cleaning up some of my clips) - i still think the 25 cap for accurate and relevant keywords is too tight / restricted / constricting...well you know what i mean.

My two cents.

Rob while some would agree with you P5 made that ruling because keywording and categories were getting out of hand. I sent a PM to P5 on the subject and yes it should be in FAQs.

I don't think the 25 keywords limit is really active at this point. But we won't get a clear answer until the P5 crew comes back from Rio or wherever they spend their carnival vacation.
