There is a discussion going on on the best or "only" way 1920x1080 HD 3D should be formatted, processed and sold on P5 or as stock. Since P5 is just now getting some 3D stereoscopic footage it is time to discuss how and why. This discussion is strictly for stereoscopic left / right eye footage that is to be displayed by end user at 1920x1080.
Several options exist, which is best and why. Which do buyers want and why?
1. Separate left and right video captures at full 1920x1080. This will need exact timing to make it work.
2. A single red / blue glasses in a single 1920x1080. This is old technology and results in a less than sharp video.
3. Side-by-side where the 1080 height is preserved but the horizontal is compressed to fit the 1920 size.
4. top-bottom where the horizontal 1920 is preserved but the 1080 is compressed.
5. preserve both aspects in a side-by-side by having the dimensions as 3840x1080.
6. preserve both aspects in top/bottom in a total dimension of 1920x2160.
The Cineform software for GoPro 3D formats in either red/blue 1920x1080 or a side-by-side at 1920x1080 with the horizontal compressed to fit.
So what do ya'll think. Marcus or Tom or other P5 Team members please chime in and help. I have a lot of European 3D ready to process but really want to do it in the best most sale able format possible.

May I missed the point. But what the hell does "Adobe personal computer software license agreement" have do with 3D footage? Are your eyes playing tricks on you again?

Jason what are you talking about? The link when I click on it is "Stereoscopic 3D Video in the Home" and I don't see anything else in my post about some Adobe software license.
The point is simple but also needs to come from 3D footage qualified "experts". Red / blue 3D is crap, so what is the best way to sell 3D stereoscopic footage? Some discussion is ok but I'm sure there are several P5 artists that want expert discussion and not endless and pointless banter with back-biting and bitches please.

Sorry Don. This is a new computer and someone else loaded the programs for me before I picked up. The link is working now.

I know all options have some level of validity. But which format is more of the "standard" or is easiest with the best quality for use by producers?

The PMW-TD300 3D Camera ($30k for low budget productions) may set the most popular standard.
I believe it's 2 full HD in one single file (3840x1080).

This is a most interesting subject. Here lies the future of stock video.
Will they ever make a perfect software that transforms today's HD 2D into 3D?
Since these files (3840x1080) must be gargantuan in PhotoJpeg, P5 should consider accepting AVCHD 3D files.

Hey Curators ... any suggestions from P5 view point?

Hello Don,
I suggest to upload 2 full HD 1920x1080 files (left-eye and right-eye) if you can extract them from the original camera (.MVC ??) files. All 3D NLE software support such files and you can view them with any 3D viewer and convert to any stereoscopic 3D format. If you'll upload stereoscopic 3D files stretched horizontally or vertically you'll loose quality.
Zygis
p.s. I don't work for P5 nor I'm curator

I agree the absolute best is two individual footage clips. If this is an option P5 hopefully will put something that will tie these left and right eye to each other without the buyer having to search and guess. Good input. Zygis.
Any more input or suggestions from 3D footage artists, producers or buyers?

Don,
I agree with zygistudio. If I go into 3D it will be with 2 separate full hd files. That way if the regular 2D buyer wants a clip, he can buy one of the 2. The problems left are 1) pricing 2) clips must appear side-to-side on searches and P5 has to control spamming.
Let me help with other inputs:
(shouting) !!!! ANY MORE INPUTS OR SUGGESTIONS FROM 3D FOOTAGE ARTIST, PRODUCERS OR BUYERS !!! P5 WAKE UP!!! WHAT IS YOUR INPUT IN THIS ISSUE?
