Is the market dead for composers?

Audionaut Hi.
What do you mean you are exclusive? as far as I know you can not be exclusive on music category yet.
Audionaut 25 Jan 2022 08:55
Yes, you are right. I misunderstood the offer to go exclusive, and thought it would be also for music.

Could very well be related to Pond5 reducing Audio split from 50% down to 35% in mid 2019.

Well, in 1 year I have only 1 track on my portfolio and the last sale was 5 months ago.

Hi Audionaut,
I've just listened to a few of your tracks and they do sound pretty good to me, very clean and varied. I wonder if there being a majority of short tracks makes any difference? I'm newly on here, it's my first look at the community forums, and I must say I had low expectations of success, simply because of the size of the library. I'm intending to copy tracks over to other such sites to get more coverage. Listening to people like Eric Copeland on YouTube gives one hope that something might click one day.
Perhaps we composers should join together - that way we'd have loads of tracks, even if we didn't make a thing from them..!

Thanks for your kind words, IndefiniteArticle!
I have many short tracks, because they are from earlier jobs for advertisement. You are right with having low expectations: My page views are now about 3 per month with about 60 tracks online, so the chance for sales are modest...
If you are a newcomer and want some insight in the library music market I would recommend the book from Dan Graham: "A composers guide to library music".

Yeah, since the new board took over the music sales dropped big time almost inmediately. They changed many things, the first one reducing profits for us from 50% to 30%. Apart from that, I still have sales but waaaay less than I used to. It's not dead but this may be "Weekend at Bernie's".

RubenLozano, you have 73 titles and you have sales, I soon have a hundred and no views and even less sales? what is your secret? 🤔
RubenLozano 3 Apr 2022 08:26
EDMusicProductions, it's not about number of tracks. I had sales with a fraction of those tracks. I guess "the secret" is having been around before the ship wrecked. I have a couple of tracks that have sold more than a hundred times, I guess that's why I still sell something (not even half of what I used to).

EDMusicProductions i would tend to agree with RubenLozano, i sold more tracks and had more views when i had a very small (and not that great) portfolio than now approaching 150. The stuff i upload is now better quality and yet the rare sales i get is the odd older track kind of sold ok, kind of depressing the bigger and better my portfolio get the less sales lol.
