My New 4K monitor

Is there a big difference in details looking a uhd clip on it compared to hd monitors??

Can you turn the automatic stuff off? I'd not want to think it was "cleaning up the image" for me... if there's noise or lack of detail, I want to know!

Do you have it set up so you can still view content at the same time on an HD monitor? So if you view it at 100% on the HD monitor, how does it compare to the UHD device?

I'm in Albuquerque New Mexico at the International Balloon Fest so my internet is "maybe"

I have the system hooked up dual monitor so the mouse slides left and right from the 4K to HD seamlessly. I can view the same clips on both screens at the same time if I want. The 4K is much sharper and better contrast. I can see into the shadows much better. 100$ 4K versus 100% HD is much better and more clear.

I use the 4K for Premiere Pro and the HD for Bridge to find the clips. For me I see no value in splitting the screen into two HD screens since I have dual monitors already that fills my desk top.

I believe I have all the automatic features turned off.

I only had a couple hours working with it before leaving for the fest but first impression at that price it was a good choice.

Sounds good - certainly seems like best of all worlds with that set up.

It's only downside (and a big part of the reason it's cheap is that it's a TN panel rather than IPS. I'd have a hard time going back to TN (viewing angle affects relative contrast)
RekindlePhoto 5 Oct 2014 23:41
Agreed TN limits viewing angle ... really ... it sits on a desk in front of my eyes. So far I've never had a reason to process footage while sitting on the sofa next to the desk ;). The truth ... how many of us here use an IPS and need 170 degree view angle? Bet most are using old tech LCD and a few LED anyway and a few vacuum tube sets ;)

Oh by the way. So far the Balloon Fest is a bust. Been too windy to even get a single balloon off the ground.

I've not met a TN monitor that I haven't been able to shift contrast/gamma by simply turning my head, or whether I'm hunched or sitting up straight. Certainly don't need 170 degrees unless showing someone (which does happen) I guess it's one of those control freak things, like not liking the Adobe CC color shift in PJPEG renders, and I'll never go back to TN monitors (a noticeable increase in quality of my work happened when I got my IPS monitors)

Sorry about the balloon no go!

understand and yup everything points to a IPS being higher quality.
Mizamook 6 Oct 2014 06:37
Sorry - I think I was sounding argumentative. That's not what I meant. If the TN is the only issue (which is what I said) the price is right, and certainly sounds like you are getting what you want/expect from it. All I was saying is that I'll wait (especially as I just gone and done wiped out the rest of my earnings by buying a Hero4....)

Enjoy the monitor!

No problem it is a good discussion. Just like when we were all buying the Sony AX-100 or GH4. Plus and minus on both sides. Good to know positives and limitations.
