You're welcome (to whatever extend my post might have been helpful to you) ,i was hoping for a discussion though. Why were you asking?

I consider replacing my old equipment. I feel the better Canon cameras are too expensive and too heavy. I am not familiar enough with the other brands, that's why I am inquiring. How is A7R II in 4K?

Havent used it only the S but it has S35 crop mode if you need it and it's a better camera for stills.Plus it doesnt overheat.
You have to research further because it has a few modes where it can be pretty much noiseless up to high isos, same or better than the A7S, and some others where it's worse than the A7S it depends on various combinations of crop and ful frame modes in 4k and hd according to how the sensor downconverts etc.
A full review will have you covered, personally, if i wanted a camera that could use aps-s lenses natively and could take amazing stills i would go for it, also for video it can be better in low light and rolling shutter than the S in some occasions.

I have the a7s and would buy it over the mark iv. The gh5 looks sexiest of all though.

How about some real world user updates from any P5 Artists?

I just watched this YouTube and it's one of the better reviews from a Nikon and Canon shooter. Interesting info on why the crop factor in video at 24-26 minutes.

REVIEW CANON 5D MK IV

I have had the 5DMIV for a couple of weeks now and I think that I'll hang on to it. The auto focus for video works great, Love the touch screen, I can live with the large file sizes. With 5T hard drives so cheap now I can store 17 or 18 hours of 4K on one drive that sells for about $130. That is less than $10/hour. I used to pay more than that for quality tape back in the day... I am still working on a workflow, but I will likely keep one set of original MJPEG files and convert to a more manageable CODEC for editing and even cheaper archiving. I have had no problem working with the 4k footage, even on an older computer it plays fine with out stuttering in Edius Pro. Conversion to either HD or GVHQ 4K AVI happens about 2X real time.

I debated long and hard about this decision, especially because of all of the negative press about the video limitations. I can live without zebras and focus peaking. There are other ways to manage these things. The thing that I am having the hardest time with is the crop factor. I went hiking for a day in Colorado last week and thought that I would have no problem with a 28 prime. To my surprise there were shots that I was not able to get because of that limitation. But other than that I love the look of the video. It is rich, clean, full. The real selling point for me is that it is also an amazing stills camera. In my work I need to also shoot good stills so this camera represents a good, one kit solution for me.

With all of the hype, I invested into the GH4 system and found that not only could I not get good quality stills, I was also not happy with the ability of the camera for versatile video shooting. I shoot a lot in Africa where I am either out in the tropical sun or in dark classrooms and huts. The GH4 does not handle either very well. Even in optimal lighting, to my eye, there was just something wrong with the way the video looked. Having invested over $2000 in lenses I will probably hang in there to see what the GH5 Body offers before I bail on Panasonic, but I still like the idea of only having to carry one camera around for quality stills and video. They will have to step up their game on both ends before I will take a GH system out on a paid shoot.

I haven't tried the Sony DSLR's but most of the samples that I see posted of the video look to me like somebody has applied a bad Instagram filter on the shots. Whats up with that?

I am happy for now with the MarkIV. As a bonus it works with my collection of lenses. We'll see how it goes. We'll see what comes down the pike.

I'm still leaning to get one as a backup body to 1DX MK II. So much of it is very similar. $k video processing is no issue for me either. I agree, when pixel peeping even at only 100% I can see a difference between Canon and the GH4 and Sony RX-10 II / AX-100 type cameras. They just hold together at pixel level as well. As a backup the crop factor doesn't bother me. especially it's ability to reach out further with a long lense. Just have to plan on which body to take. The focus in darker areas is really important and all the reviews I've read all say the focus is better than anything they have used.

I guess the thing to remember is it is not a $6,000 camera like the 1DX MK II and not a $1,500 camera like many of the competitors that it is compared to. Ford versus Chevy type argument ... good to hear reviews from real time Artists that have nothing to gain by advertising or endorsements. We all will like something different.

@WorldViewImages, I have noticed the Instagram filter as well. I cannot find out-of-camera unprocessed film. The fact that Sony is not combating this fenomena is very weird.

Just picked up the 5D MK IV. Now to play ... and get bigger CF cards for 4K video. I believe it will be a good companion to 1DX MK II I realy really like.
