DJI Mavic Discussion, Bashing, and Mis-Information

GoPro took a long time testing and improving (almost a year past original release date). DJI jumped real fast and not sure they are ready. Other reviews say the camera is the same of lower quality than the 4. Also the working electronics are most likely the Phantom 4 parts and technology in a new small form factor case.

Casey lost his MAVIC ... another "fly away"

How hard would it be to put a small GPS tracking device on these things so when they fly away you have a chance at least of finding it?. I mean an external GPS transponder, something that you would put in a package or whatever to track it's location, not the GPS that's built in to the drone.

So I guess the Mavic doesn't have a return to home function like the P4? Or did that malfunction because it was getting (too) dark?

I don't know if you are being funny Stef, but that was FUNNY

That dude is HARD to stomach. What did he do, fly it behind a building, it goes into RTH, can't go over building, tries to find way around it, but can't, and crashes somewhere else. My first (of two) Inspire 1 crashes were doing that ... I went out beyond a point at sea, lost connection, it tried to come back but RTH altitude set too low for terrain, and it hit a tree and dropped onto the rocks. (the other one was in a forest when I went way too fast, too far, and lost perspective, and did not stop before this freaking TREE suddenly jumped up in front off it ... )

Mistakes happen .. I think this episode is not a flyaway, it's a freaking mistake, and he should chill out.

Haha I think it was a serious question, but now I'm not so sure. Yep, RTH didn't always work very well for the Inspire and Phantom 3 models. The P4, however, has obstacle avoidance. Even if there are obstacles in the way, when using the RTH function it should (theoretically) fly over/around them. It won't see everything of course, and I guess the setting sun made things even trickier. Since DJI touted that the Mavic has the same avoidance system as the P4, I suppose he made a mistake.

There is a bonanza for this drone ...... Will DJI have the inventoty .... ? Do they have enough production assembly lines? Will the rush of production create a lot of defects in the units ,,,,,,? Rush is directly proportional to production defects.

If it crashed the obstacle avoidance isn't much good. A slow descent into the water ... oh well they don't swim. Sure hope they don't have the Phantom 2 fly away problem again because of lack of testing and rush to market.

Ya this guy is annoying at best.

Whomever makes one that swims wins. I'm not kidding. There is one that does, (float) and when you tilt eh cam down you see directly underwater ... neat, but not good enough, especially as the cam is (gulp) a GoPro.
