Holidays and events splash

Tom, Marcus, it's not so much the number of keywords, it the spam words that have nothing to do with the clip. I guess a little closer approval on quality of clip as well as keywords to make sure they are not too far off.

If the limit is 25 can you make the keyword input box stop accepting keystrokes when the limit is hit? Manually counting is a real %^$#@$. P5 is so user friendly I would hate to start making it slow and cumbersome. Also another site just lets ya completely finish keywording then is a double or too many keywords it errors and ya have to start all over again. PLEASE don't do something like that. That's why I have less than 50 there.

Good work P5 Team.

Limiting the number of keystrokes isn't the best idea. Many people cut & paste their keywords from word- or excel sheets and keywords are not always in order of preference. Editing out additional keywords would be easier if we just got a word/phrase counter next to the keyword field.

Yup, that's what I meant Varius, not a keystroke counter but a word counter. I have never used the template here at P5. I use a word file that I cut & paste from them modify as needed. Again, it is not necessarily the number of words it's the validity of worlds describing the clips. Even if limited to ten words if they are like we saw then ten is too many. As P5 approves clips they should look at the keywords, if it is a pattern of spam then reject them. If it is a small problem or an oooppps then delete the one of two offending words. Most sites have a 50 word limit. 25 is good but most important is valid words.

Also, a big help would be an automatic duplicate word elimination algorithm. Part of the submit process that finds and highlights duplicate words that may already be input either as a double by typing or a double between typed and check box entries.

Additional idea for the splash thingy...

Currently it appears to be a search for one keyword (thanksgiving) or both keywords (dinner & eating). I don't think this is the best way to do this. Three reasons:

1) It invites keyword spamming (just add thanksgiving to your clip and suddenly you have a lot more views)
2) You easily miss a lot of clips that SHOULD be in the promotion.
3) You will also get clips of... well... questionable quality. The splash is a promotion thing. It should represent the best we have, not just everything that fits the keywords.

Solution: Use a clipbox for it. Ask the curators to select some clips and maybe post something on the members forum for suggestions. I don't know about everyone else here, but I'm not too proud to point out other folk's good work.

Hi!

I agree with Varius: one thing is the search result for 'thanksgiving' or' dinner+eating' and another thing is a promotion splash which should be filtered by P5 team and only the best clips placed here.

I agree, maybe a curator preview of the best 100 (P5 choice) clips representing the holiday. Thena big banner saying more is available by searching the keyword "Christmas". At that time the entire gallery is open. Sure would hope that most if not all artists would be represented.

Another great idea! Yes I do have a few. Two weeks prior to the change from one holiday to the next announce to artists through the forum that each artist is allowed to submit up to three clips to be included in the main banner search. If more than 100 clips are submitted then P5 will choose the best while still allowing each responding artist to have at least one clip. This way the artist will insure as will P5 that the appropriate keywords are active for the highlighted banner. This will also help ensure that the best and not all of the clips with the keywords are showcased. Yes it can be a call for showcased clips to match upcoming event or holiday. I amaze myself sometimes. Be nice to me and don't hurt mt feeling by telling me I'm stupid. Scott can but no one else ;)

Yes, great points all around. We will definitely shift over to a Clip Bin for the Splash results.

Keep those ideas coming!

Just did a click on Thanksgiving splash. Six pages, a majority still has noting to do with Thanksgiving. I'm embarrassed to see a number of my clips there that have nothing to do with Thanksgiving, yes holiday and yes food but specifically not Thanksgiving.

Here is a quick list of subjects that have nothing to do with Thanksgiving that are main subject in Thanksgiving splash link:
pacman game, veg boiling, Munich Beer Fest, pizza, clock, grizzly bear, ravioli, meat fry, toast, Turkish girl, lobster, children eating, mutton fry, hamburger, hot dog, too many fall leaves, candles, tomatoes, fish, burritos, french fries, crab and more.

Most of these video do not have "Thanksgiving" as a keyword but the splash is picking up other words that it shouldn't. This is not a jab at the artists just the way the splash searches.

This mix up and mess will only scare buyers away. A quick cleanup is needed. Sorry Tom and Marcus more work for ya but well worth it I believe. Like I said several are mine but do not have thanksgiving as a keyword. They have food or eating listed but they as well as dozens other should not be showcased as Thanksgiving.

Thanks.
