Hi everybody,
I had to bump this oooold thread because I'm having the same problems as the OP.
I purchased the following clip, which has 'Yes' ticked for Alpha Channel and Alpha Matte: https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/25457647/lowerthirdpink-all-hd.html
Currently editing using Sony Vegas 12, and I've tried all three formats the video came in: prores, H264 and PhotoJPEG
I'm dropping the video into a track above my footage, and have tried changing the media properties of the pond5 video to Alpha Channel Straight, Alpha Channel Premultiplied, etc. but still the entire video covers my footage..... including the black background which if I'm understanding correctly is actually an alpha layer.
Very new to this so please be patient with me, but how can I get this working? I tried using the white animations at the end of the video as a mask, but had the same problems as the OP, it still gave me nothing but black bg and none of the footage underneath.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Hey Isaacq,
For this clip the alpha channel is at the tail. You'll need to line up the alpha with the fill and use that as the mask. I'm not familiar with Vegas so I can't tell you the steps for that sorry. H264 and PJPG Quicktime files cannot have embedded alpha which is why it was included at the tail and why you are seeing fully opaque images.
Hope this helps.
