No it's a type of rocker switch that you press similar to a camcorder but if you use the iPad or iPhone then you can zoom using the on screen button/ switch and get smooth and quiet zoom in's and out's.

Wow, I'd get one today but none in stock!

It seems very useful, do they have other varieties to the 45-175mm? I could only find a 14-42mm in a quick Google search.

By the way, I bought one of these 19mm lens. I wanted something auto to use the Ipad with but wanted to keep the 2.8
It's pretty sharp for the price.

Thanks for these suggestions guys, they all look like interesting lenses! So far, I'm looking at the 12-35mm and probably the 45-175 as the first two lenses.

I have the 45-175 and am really happy with it. It is also nice that it does not extend its length when zooming. I wish Panasonic would design this feature into some other lenses.

The only other Panasonic power zoom is the 14-42 still an X series lens. I do like the 45-175 it's light and small, just wished they were f2.8 constant aperture.
