Moble Green Screen Android Launch

Hi All, here is my attempt at useful video tool for video makers out there. I needed chroma key (Green Screen) app for my footage, but just couldn't find anything that fit all my specific needs like full brightness control and completely full screen (no task bar or on-screen navigation buttons showing). I needed an app which displayed a solid green color in full screen, while hiding all the system bars and button on any Android device allowing you to keep the device anonymous for those generic tablet and smart phone shots. I was even willing to pay for it, but even the paid ones weren't exactly what I needed, so I built one, it's only about $1.50USD Here is the download link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digiphd.mobilegreenscreen

Here is a youtube video with it is action:

Mobile Green Screen Trailer - Customer Showcase

Here is the blurb from store with list of additional features:

"Mobile Green Screen is for Video makers, advertisers and promoters. Its simplest aim is to display a solid green color to your devices in FULL screen, so when the devices screen gets filmed on location, the screen can be replaced by whatever you wish in post production software like Final Cut Pro and After Effects with their chroma key features. See the above video for examples.

List of Features:
** Full Screen Color of your choice
** Brightness Control to suit your lighting conditions
** Upto 5 point adjustable motion control points
** Zoomable image/logo overlay
** Video overlay
** Orientation lock on/off
** Email support

Some other green screen counterparts don't fill the entire screen, leaving the notification bar or (on tablets with no buttons) the navigation bars visible. Full screen allows you to film any android device in such away that its make, model and operating system are anonymous.

Additionally, track the motion of any screen with up to 5 configurable motion tracking points, change the display color to anything, adjust screen brightness to suit the lighting conditions and lock the orientation all within the app.

Another great feature takes the post production work out of it. If you are unclear, or not sure how to replace the green screen of your mobile device in post production, there is no need to. Simply load the image/logo/video that you want to display onto the devices hard drive and display it for filming within the app. That way no advanced editing is required, and you can simply edit in a simple editor like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. NOTE: Be sure to match the video resolution with your devices for best results. You can find your devices resolution by going to: "Mobile Green Screen > Start Here> (Sliding Menu) > App Details". Great for app/game designers with all their promotional graphics, ready to be shown in action."

Thanks for the support, I hope you find it useful.

Very nice app. I will pick it up in a few days when I am back and settled in. Any plans for Apple devices? (iPad, I phone etc) the tracking points feature is awesome.

Thanks Vadervideo, if you have any suggestions based on useability or features that may help your productivity let me know in the https://www.pond5.com/de/community?thread=36050065&lp=1. You can also e-mail me directly via the app for support.

I may do an apple version if I have time. Unfortunately only charging less than the price of a Macdonalds Cheeseburger in such a small market of videographers doesn't really fund the 20-30hrs required to develop an apple version. Maybe in 6-8 years it might, haha. I just developed the tool for myself as nothing really existed that met my criteria, hopefully others will benefit out of it as well.

Thanks in advance for part payment of my next cheeseburger :)

Is it only me? I really can't see the need for an app. We always use a simple JPEG with a couple of markers on it and we're done. If you want to get fancy use any free paint app to change colors or brightness.

There are many ways to accomplish this Daniel. I have used Mocha (comes with AE) for tracking etc. But sometimes a simple tool of this nature comes in handy as well. I like having several tools at hand. Each serves a purpose sooner or later. :)

Thanks for the comment Daniel. Yeah as vadervideo mentioned, it's just another tool for convenience and if you watch the video on the play store it works quite well in an environment where the lighting is fairly soft and omnidirectional. A print out would be useful in situations where your subjects device is highly reflective and the filming environment has uncontrolled lighting. Although mobile green screen works well also in these environments by adjusting the screen brightness within the app, its effectiveness is dependent on the maximum screen brightness of the subjects device, so if outdoors on a sunny day, this might not be adequate unless the tablet has a sunlight visible display with a mat finish.

However, the app gives you the flexibility, with the press of a button, to use any chroma key color value you wish. Sometimes I use any color which isn't already dominant within the scene, this helps me to create an effective chroma mask without having to spend heaps of time tweaking the chroma key filter settings.

It is great to take initiative, to do something. Pro shooters never (or almost never) use real gadgets but mock-ups. This is something you should take in consideration when marketing your app. I am not trying to dissuade you but to make you aware and I wish you success!
