GOOD BYE!!!!!!!

It's true, that the folks here at Pond5 have made alot of improvements over the past 5-6 years. The search has improved tremendously. However waiting 6-8 weeks or more for your footage to be approved is not good for business. (used to take about a week).
Pond5 needs to hire more people to keep up with the work load since they have grown so much. Keep your contributors happy, and you will continue to grow and make money.....and isn't that why we are here in the first place?
Let's all work together for the common good....and Happy Holidays to all!! HO HO HO

yeah they're pretty long right now but seriously, how often do you sell a clip you uploaded within the first month? It doesn't happen very often. So a month long curation time is nothing. I mean sure I'd LOVE to have it curated instantly (and that has happened in the past) but as was mentioned before, once you upload it you forget about it. It'll be online eventually, just keep shooting and uploading and the sales will continue to roll in. I'd love to know which marketplace you're going to instead of here… the landscape is pretty barren elsewhere.

SkywardKick: I suppose if you uploaded time sensitive material (ex: Christmas footage) and it doesn't get approved until after the holidays....well you will just have to wait until next year I guess!! Happy New Year

I am new here, I have 270 video's waiting for approval. They have been sitting there for around 4 weeks. That period of wait time does not bother me since, from what I have seen, most sales come long after footage has been initially approved and made available for purchase.

As far as time sensitive footage is concerned, I would think, (no real experience here) that you should have already shot your footage and had it uploaded at least 3 to 6 months prior to when that holiday ended, say Christmas, New Years Eve etc. I would imagine that most clients/producers or whatever, would want that footage well ahead of time in order to have the time necessary to write/edit/produce that video. I would imagine, that if someone had shot some Valentine's Day footage for example, it should have been uploaded back in September at the latest, to have a real chance to be approved/purchased for this up coming Valentine's Day.

If my inexperienced logic in understanding when to upload stock footage for a specific holiday/event is incorrect, please feel free to correct it immediately; there is a lot to learn here.

So if sales come a long time after approval a delay of a month still delays potential sales by a month. I can't think of a single business anywhere or any kind that finds it acceptable to delay sales by a week, month or a year. I do fully understand why P5 is backlogged and is now the longest ever for curation. But, to think that since sales don't happen immediately it's ok for a month or more delay is not sound thinking, it is still a delay of earnings for P5 and the artists and they know that it is the case.

Seasonal footage sales from my history is several months ahead of the holiday. I start seeing a lot of winter footage start to sell in July - August. Summer footage will start seeing an up-swing in sales soon. P5 is not a news agency. There are agencies that specialize in up-to-the-minute news footage. When there is an earthquake, flood, fire ect ect buyers will use P5 as examples of these disasters and not necessarily looking for time critical footage. Yes, agree some do buy current news. With the new airplane down there is an opportunity for footage of rescue ships, aerial footage over the ocean, airplane take-off and landing.P5 is a great historical archive but worrying about immediate curation (like it used to be) for current news just won't happen anymore. They are getting too big.

i dont know what u sell exactly, but from a audio contributor's perspective (mine) i gotta say, and im really into what im saying cuz i got nothn to earn if i lied or somth, but p5 has brought me the most sales from like 8 rf sites i upload to. frankly, i dont know what would happened if say p5 would crash. id be left with pennies more or less from those other sites.
sure, thing obviously could be a lot better, but still, they're better than on other sites, at least for me and my audio portfolio...
if u aint got a specific quarrel with p5 staff or it aint something that is blatantly outrageous and incorrect about this site (the way you see it), then i say just leave ur stuff here, theres nothn to lose.
of course u get frustrated, i get like all the time, and this rf thing is my only income (no real job) but hang on. i thnk moderate success comes to those who have patience too... if ur just tired and annoyed stop uploading, but dont delete ur portfolio...

:D

I look at it like this. You can price your own material and it sure beats a 3-6 month curation with some publishers I work with. Just my 2 cents. For me 1 month is a stretch, but 3-6 is limbo. lol
