The dream of almost every producer is to be able to sell their stuff on their own web site. Of course, beyond the storage issues for large portfolios, is that we can't do all of the marketing that the big agencies do. So we're not going to attract a large amount of buyers.
However, here comes Pond5 to the rescue with a WordPress plugin that allows us to feature our portfolio on our web site and still allow searching the entire Pond5 catalog and SELL from our web site through Pond5.
So, a buyer comes to my web site, they find some clips they like, they "add to cart" on my site and then checkout. The checkout jumps to Pond5 where they complete the transaction and download their clips. And I get a small commission on anything sold through my site that's not in my portfolio (like with the affiliate system now).
Why go through the trouble of creating such a plugin? Because of the thousands of Pond5 artists who will use it on their sites, which then gives Pond5 a HUGE MEGABOOST to their SEO, makes a bunch of happy artists, and hopefully drives more buyers to Pond5 from artists who sell on multiple agencies.
