Someone has contacted me about buying 1hr worth of underwater footage of fish lockdown shots. What should I charge?
I told him I normally sell 5sec- 30sec for $60
Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

What type of camera? How much equipment is needed to accomplish this? How much real time does it take to achieve this duration of footage? Those are things to think about. Also, if a production house were to send out a "second unit" to acquire such footage - it would cost big $ before they even left their front door. Pre-production etc.. comes into play (may not apply if it is already shot footage) - But you need to think about amortization of equipment and time. Also, how difficult would it be to reproduce such material? All these things need to be taken into consideration. At the rate you suggest it would come out to $7200 - that would actually be very inexpensive for an hour's worth of footage.

I consider myself an amateur videographer. I did a lot of diving in my college years and lost 3 cameras to housing leaks. I had friends that filmed underwater shots with expensive film cameras and saw the complexity of underwater filming and lighting. I have seen your underwater shots and they are of very good quality. Like Vadervideo, I think you are selling them too cheap. I believe that they should be at least $199.oo per shot. I have serve as guide to some filming crews making documentaries for Canal Infinito a spanish cable channel, Discovery Channel, and History Channel. To my knowlegde Discovery and History Channel contract documentaries with a budget that vary from $200,000 to $500.000. Only few go up to $1,000,000. Budgets for latin channels documentaries are from $50,000 to $150,000. The producer will always try to keep to his pocket the most as posible. The producer expects to keep to his pocket from 40 to 50% of the contract.

ask for what makes you most comfortable, I'd go with 10 or 15 thousand with your type of work and quality , you can always come down in price if they think its too high or want to barter.

Thanks for all the advice, yea when I think about how much it would cost to get all the shots that would be real expensive to hire out. Some of the shots Ive had only 1 chance to get in my 2 years of almost everyday diving.
