Geo Tagging suggestion

In today's world being as small as it is, would a "Geo" tag be helpful for buyers to search on? My opinion is that if I wanted to get shots of Paris, I might also want surrounding areas etc.. as an example, hence if there was an actual geo tag search mechanism, one could literally click on a map and get all types of shots from that geographical area. It would also encourage people to tag the actual location of the shot more so than is done now. Just an idea. :)

I often use Geotag data on Flickr to find locations where other people shoot... ;) For that reason, I could see a lot of commercial artists NOT tagging their clips for that same reason.

I know - it's a double edged sword.. but... it doesn't have to be that specific. Just the general area and it would be optional for the artist if they wanted to submit that info anyway.

So anyone have a good 'freeware" geotaging software to combine the gps time and coordinates with the camera time? Normally it's a software program and not having a gps hooked to camera to write to exif. What do ya'll use?

Due to the lack of technology available to most, it would most likely be or simply be a map generated based on location fields which are already in the system. Then if the artist wanted to they could simply pin the location more precisely if they wanted to. Similar to Youtube and Google. It could be that simple. However, that only works if the artist actually makes use of the location field. I wasn't thinking so much of super tech. But this could open a new door so that if someone does search by location on a map, they would see many "opins"and could start browsing clips that way. Again, just a thought of marketing concepts. Nothing more.

I use an iPhone app to track my every move... :)
And yeah, I'd be interested in Pond5 added a clickable map that let me click on the city where the shot was taken.

Using an iPhone to keep track of one's every move is a great idea for a person with alzheimer's if only they could remember which app they used.
