. . . Folklore Recording Expedition is jointly sponsored by the Library of Congress, the WPA Music Project, and the WPA Florida Writers' Project. This record is being made in Tarpon Springs, Florida, August 26, 1939. Alton C. Morris, editor of Southern Folklore Quarterly, is the intermediary and interviewer. Stetson Kennedy, director of folk studies for the Florida Music Project, and Robert Cook, director for the folk Florida Writers' Project, are assisting. We are going to have a number offered by a Greek orchestra, the vocalist of which is Mr. Charles M. Brown. The members of the orchestra are Louis Peronis, Harry Perris, George Kafezio, and the name of the song is 'Amaxas.' Mr. Brown, would you come to the microphone please? "Sure." "You say the name of this song is 'Amaxas.'" "'Amaxas.'" "'Amaxas.' And what does that mean?" "It means the man who runs the horse and buggy." The sound quality of this recording is poor.
