Why have sales gone so incredibly shite? Am I the only one who has had a drastic drop in sales at Pond5? Just wondering if there's a reason for it that I haven't seen yet or if it's just bad luck or something... seems strange to have such an extended drought...

my recent payment was half my previous one.
i supposed it's because of being december.
but i havent been uploading as much as i did in november, so i can't draw a good conclusion if it was because of me or because of december or because of the site..

There was a problem with profile page links for a while. All links to a profile page were resulting in a search for video files and not music files, meaning your page had nothing on it if a person was coming to it from a link. That was confirmed by Pond5 when I reported it a few days ago. As of now, it appears to have been fixed. However, it seems that all of my external links to the profile had been turning up no files for a while. I had nearly zero file views for a month.
However, I don't think that's the real issue. Market saturation is peaking. This site now has over 400K music files and 562K sfx. We can keep fooling ourselves into thinking this will change, but it won't as more and more just keeps piling in. It's getting so bad that some previously non-exclusive sites are now going exclusive to avoid rate wars and composers selling the same music at different rates on multiple competitor sites. This is the only site I have left. I withdrew from everything else that's royalty free as I had zero sales for extended periods on this stuff, which is a "back catalog" of old work and I don't update for RF. If it's not selling, what's the point. I'll be closing this out later today.
Enjoy while you can!
UPDATE: Will try a price decrease in a futile attempt to make a sale and see if I had set it too high. However, I'm pretty sure this will make no difference.

No significant sales decreases overall, though had a few short periods of no sales. Overall sales are on par with my average of the last 8-10 months.

crestwood, $20 is cheap, you might wanna try 30.
and you have to have regular uploading, with just 68 files you will have periods of no sales.
there are a lot of clips in p5's portfolio. you have to be competitive.

Free is even cheaper. That's what they're about to be, "free". I've decided to liberate them. It's really not a big deal. Some of that music is ten years old. I think the newest is probably two years. I write plenty, but not for this market.

No offense to you personally Crestwood, but I feel like it's somewhat of a creative sin to give away any of your music for free. I have thought about it before, but unless it's a rare occurrence (a promotional push for a limited time for instance) I just don't see any positives in that. Music is being devalued more and more all the time. Why contribute to that?

It's not actually being given away for free... I meant, "free from Pond5". Everything here at Pond5 has been removed from the internet and will be totally gone once Pond5 deletes what's here. I confirmed my request for removal yesterday. The only way it will be licensed now is through direct connections with local clients and a publisher/music supervisor who has it.
I don't see the point in continuing to clog up already overloaded search engines with this music. In my view, this is the right thing for people to do when their music isn't selling. What is hurting and devaluing the music industry is the huge influx of mediocre music many RF sites just keep allowing in to create high volume they can advertise and composers refusing to remove their music when they no longer promote it and/or it doesn't sell.
