Physics, I'm not exactly sure when I'd need to use that kind of light. Would it be used outdoors? How far would subject have to be for typical use?

Outdoors, and for the frezzi within a few feet. You may not need it, but it will make your video look a lot better in some circumstances. Yes it is an outside light. For lighting things on a grander scheme, you need a large lighting kit, and that is pushing the edge of what is stock imagery if you are doing it 'on a scene'. Most lighting kits are used on a set of some kind, when used for stock imagery.

There are allot very good LED lights on the market today. One they use less power than incandescent lights and can a better job. Personally I have both incandescent and LED but prefer the LED due to it's lighter weight, less heat and longer running time using the same power pack.

Physics; your right does seem a tad high @ B&H, I'll check out Ebay
Jason; Good point about LED. Could you recomment a good starter setup

Is it possible to do the same thing using reflectors? Cheaper, lighter and wont have to worry about color temperature correction. Might be more of a hassle to setup though ?

You can buy reflectors for some stuff. I would read up on when to use gold or silver.. You can also schedule your shoots for ideal times of day. Sometimes you may not need a light. I haven't gotten to use my light much yet. For the same reason, if you have involuntary subjects instead of actors, it is hard to hit them with a spot light and remain unobtrusive. I intend to use my light a lot more as I advance. It can really help with some simple things though, primarily as fill light. I think a lot of good photo/videographers use only natural lighting, but some pro shots using a good fill light are inarguably excellent. In the end, I guess it is part of shooting style. For advertising imagery though, I would bet that balanced lighting using a fill light will sell better.

I took one lighting class at the local art institute, and it was very... enlightening...

I use a T4 led light which can be run off a Sony NP-F970 battery or any 12v battery pack. The led light I use is made by F&V Photographic Equipment Co. out of China. If you Google (T4 led video lights) there is a photo of that light on the first page. There is a company here in Michigan that handles their products www.lcd4video.com.

There is one problem with most LED lights on the market today and that is the manufactures do not list the output watts of their products. Without that info it is impossible to know how long a given battery pack will continuously run a given light.

The only time I use it is at night when taping animals feeding on our deck or at wedding receptions. Other then that I have no need for fill lighting. The one thing I try to avoid is shooting directly into the suns path which will cause backlight problems for foreground subjects. The use of a polarizing filter comes in handy to cut glare but in order to use it the lens hoods has to be removed.

The only time I see camera lights being used is by news crews as fill lights during local news broadcasts interviews out on the streets.

If you are using V1U primarily outside in low light conditions that you can reduce your shutter speed below 1/60 of a second. But the shots have to be taken from a locked down tripod.

Physics; thanks for the insight. I'll check the local community school for a similar class.

Jason; thanks for the tips on LED lighting gear, I'll check out the T4.

Almost at the 700 clip point. If anyone has the time for comments, I'd really appreciate it. Anything goes so don't hold back as I'm always looking to improve. These where taken with new camera so curious to see what others have to say. Next batch will probably be outside shots as I need to get out of the basement and into the sun light

Does anyone have any input on a recent batch of approvals? I'd like to know if any of it has value. If not, maybe suggestions for new subject matter or improvements. Recent additions are in Bins

Any input (good, bad or ugly) would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I would recommend locking exposure. In your power button turn on/off clip, I can tell that the iris changes.
