Why Do you use a Handle or nickname here?

sftigress 7 Feb 2011 17:58
The SF part of my name are my first and last initials and the tigress is because I love cats :)
openheart 27 Apr 2011 05:27
"openheart" refers to living life in appreciation of the moment.. i spent a lot of time wandering around forests by myself after a painful end to a long marriage and in the process developed this new career in video.. thus the handle =)
webclipmaker 28 Apr 2011 00:56
web (new media) + clip (old media) + maker (me) = webclipmaker :-)

I'm a geographer and husband Sid has an academic background in journalism. After many years of university teaching and research we now produce educational videos, travel documentaries, and stock footage full time. We have documented landscapes and life styles in more than 100 countries so GlobeScope seemed appropriate.

Hi all!
I'm new here since a couple of months.
"Eurospiders" is from my biggest ongoing website project, close-up photos of European spiders - http://www.eurospiders.com.
Spiders and other small creepy crawlers is my niche.

Undoubtedly its a typo. Sometimes my fingers wander. Thanks for calling it to my attention.
PiaPoi 20 May 2011 13:56
PiaPoi is my handle and it amuses me that people get the meaning of it wrong.

They look at "Pia" and think Latin: "holy" and then try to work out what "Poi" must mean. Holy what?

In actual fact PiaPoi stands for:

Politically
Incorrect
And
Proud
Of
It.

Here in Europe things have gotten really bad. You are effectively told what to think and people are worried about the consequences if they are, well, honest about what they really think. The emperor's new clothes is my favourite story. Hans Christian Andersen must have had a nightmare about 21st Century Europe just before he wrote that.

Now if there is an opinion to be held on virtually anything at all, chances are I am out of step with the left-wing liberal elite running the show over here.

Examples would be:
Mothers should stay home with their children. Yup.
Feminism is a social catastrophe. Yup.
Western culture is superior to certain other cultures (which are barbaric.) Yup.
And so on. You get the idea. I won't go on or I'll be run out of town. Hahahahaha! :-)

A lot of friends have told me I'd really get on in the good old USA. It's certainly true that I like yanks and there are a lot of them who are not afraid to tell it like it is. I respect that. :-)

It doesn't stop me from having good friends from all walks of life but my more liberal friends are always throwing their eyes up to heaven in despair and informing me that I am a "redneck" whatever that is. Apparently it is approved of by a lot of people in the USA and disapproved of here in Europe. I guess I was born in the wrong place.
