Is there a way to remove the shimmering of heat waves, the likes you would get when you film during a sunny day in hot weather? sometimes you get this "must pick" shot of an animal in the plains at 1pm and you cant help but shoot. then you see the waves clearly in the edit suite. Any help?

Not sure if it will work with heat waves but you could try digital anarchy flicker free plugin. They have a fully functional demo. At least give it a try. Maybe it helps.

these types of distortions have been removed from photos before. for example, you can see through clouds by taking multiple photos, and then only selecting the pixels that are clear, since they are changing. it is the same concept. so the technology exists for photography but I have not seen it for video.
the technology is used in satellites to get clearer photos in cloudy weather.

Bushman did you try the flicker free plugin on the heatwaves? Did it work?

I wouldn't bother as it is part of the feel of the footage
