1440 or 1920?

I've been submitting my HDV clips at 1920 x 1080 up to now. Saving them at 1440 x 1080 would make a smaller file for uploading. Is this allowed/encouraged? Also, if it is, how will the preview be? If it's all squished up I think I'd rather stick with the way I've been doing it.

I have uploaded both sizes here, 1440 x 1080 does not get squished up, but it does on the other site where you posted

I would have expected native HDV clips at 1920x 1080 to be rejected. Natively HDV is 1440x1080, something to do with the colour space. If you convert a native HDV clip to MJPEG or Photo JPEG it's dimensions should be 1920x1080. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your responses. I'm not submitting native files, I convert to MJPEG. kenny1, your 1440 files are MJPEG and look good to me. I think I'll give it a try. The smaller file sizes will be welcome as my internet connect is extremely slow.

I was having a similar issue from the Panasonic. I converted the stuff to Motion Jpeg in Final cut, and left the resolution alone. On the Mac OT info it reads as 720x1280. I uploaded the clip, and the preview came in squished up with the res listed as 720x960. So I rerendered another file with res set to 720x1280 uploaded it, and lo and behold when I looked at the previous clip I had uploaded the preview was no longer squished, but the res still read 720x960. What resolution do I need to output the clips at for upload?
Also is there gamma correction taking place during the upload? I am rendering from a Mac and I know there is an issue when rendering from the different platforms. My preview just looked a slightly washed out, though it may just be the loss in quality during the transcode for the preview.
Oh I am new here by the way, I hop I still get a response posting on such an old thread.
Thanks,
Scott
