Hi Pond5,

I have a question, help me figure this out.
Yesterday I had a video sale for $56, I got $22,4.
https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/34001709-4k-timelapse-independence-square-maidan-nezalezhnosti-kiev-u
But the cost of this video is $127 for HD.
$127 - PRICE OF VIDEO. I GOT $22,4 !!!
How did it happen that you sold it so cheaply?

Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to our Customer Care.

Depending on the market prices of each region, the price shown to a buyer might be different than to a buyer from a different country.

As an example, the HD version of your clip 34001709 costs at the moment $197 when it's purchased from the US and it shows a price of $56 when the buyer is from the UK.
In this case, the buyer that purchased the clip is located in the UK.

The goal here is to offer the optimal price in our marketplace for each country (or region), in order to increase the sales and make the most revenue for our artists.

We hope that this information is useful for you and, as always, we're happy to help if you need support with any technical issues or questions.

Kind regards,
Cristobal

This is complete lawlessness!!!!Show me in the pond5 rules where it is written!
Why is the price for the UK so low? What do the poor live there?
Show me a UK price screenshot!!!! This is theft! I am extremely indignant and dissatisfied!
Pay me my legitimate royalty: $50,8
I demand that I pay extra for my sold clip!

Thanks for your reply.

Please know that the regional pricing isn't an optional setting from which you can opt out at the moment, but a pricing strategy that has taken place in our marketplace and that includes all our video content.

Stock footage marketplaces are changing and we have to adapt to those changes to be able to compete and generate revenue both for us and our contributors.

We appreciate your feedback about this pricing policy and our Content team will hear about it.

We invite you to read more details about pricing in the section 3 of our Contributor Agreement: https://www.pond5.com/legal/contributor

As always, if you need support with any technical issues or questions, Customer Care will be happy to help.

Kind regards,
Cristobal

Strategy? Sell clip cheaper? And get less?

... lately, I got some explanation for file sold with added Business license... total price paid by a customer (again, Business added over Standard license at the same time, not afterwards) was less then Standard license alone... gave up after few messages and some explanations similar like above... :)

I’m from the UK and I hate selling to UK customers because of the ridiculous discounting. To begin with, the price set by the contributor is ignored, because HD clips are currently set by P5 at $56. But then there’s every chance the buyer will be granted a discount, so we could easily be looking at a lowly forty-odd dollars for the sale (my last two were $45 each). Finally, 40% for non-exclusives brings around $18.

P5 have been making the rules up as they go along when it comes to pricing. It’s disingenuous to declare themselves an agency which allows contributors to set their own prices, when in fact they so often sell clips for whatever they like.

I wonder whether all the new contributors flocking to P5 from SS to escape low selling prices, will have been forewarned that many of their sales via P5 won’t be that great either.

Sometimes I think it'd be better to sell through my own website, though marketing costs would be too high in this case, I suppose...

Guys, to sell on POND 5 you need to think about two things. Are you ready to sell your items for a minimum price and the second thing is whether you are ready to endure the brazen antics of POND 5. Change in prices, reduction in the percentage of sales and other spit in the face of the authors. Remember that POND 5 never thinks about its authors, however, like other similar sites. I haven’t been selling new tracks here for a very long time and don’t even consider this option in the future. The sales system is rotten. Have a laugh.

That's a good reason to get a VPN before purchasing I suppose
