No Views

There was an answer on a thread, but I forget where. The views are now increments of three. All of my views that are not increments of three, had views prior to the increments of three beginning. So if I had four views, next update would be seven, then ten, so on.

I also have many sales with no views, and recently sales with no add to carts.

hmmm.... you Americans have a funny way of counting... lol ;)
After my post yesterday one of my tracks suddenly got 3 views. My first views ever on Pond5. Thats positive, but I still can`t see how it`s possible to make any good sales at this site, with so little views.

As has been said, footage/tracks are getting views, it's just the stats don't show them all happening live. For example 40% of my September sales were on clips with "zero" views, and that was a decent month.

Good to hear. Guess I`ll give it a try and upload some more then... Thanx ;)

The heavy and frequent futile conversations about VIEWS and ATCs remind me the following story (I don't remember the punch line):

A 70 year old man went to the doctor and complained:
I cannot make love to my wife as we used to...
The doctor asked: when did you encounter the problem?
The man said: OK, let's see; yesterday morning 3 time, another 2 times after lunch, 3 times before sleep, and then again 3 times this morning. (Again, I don't remember the punch line).

If you do not understand the moral, I can tell you that I prefer reading the thread "Last footage sold".

If you remember the punch line, please share.

there are millions of clip entries in the database, and it is more efficient to only process the clips in terms of site placement once they reach a minimum number of views.

all clips with 0 views are always going to be at the end of the searches, most of the clips will never be viewed, so they don't need to be processed daily for page view statistics or search placement.

so they set a minimum of 3 views, and then they are only updating 15% of their database instead of 100%, which saves a lot of processing time and has little effect on things like searches or page statistics.

it cuts out the 'long tail' as they say, where there is little demand, but it makes quality new clips harder to find.

another possibility is that they are using a temporary table or processing log files for page views. they might scan a log, and count page views in memory, and every time they reach the minimum of 3, they issue the update command to the database. this reduces the number of database queries by 66%, which speeds up processing.

however, they may be dropping page views if there are less than 3. so if you only get 2 page views, they might be tossed out and never recorded in the database when the log is done parsing, or possibly recorded into another log for future processing.

if the page view log is recorded in a database, then if you have less than 3 page views, they could get retained until a future run of the page view processing.

and of course if they are using multiple logs or multiple temp tables, then that makes things even more complicated.
