How accurate is that report I wonder. Very poorly written article . . . . seems to be written in pigeon English.

OK, that's what I was trying to determine - "GoPro" is a brand. The knockoffs do not spec out the same.

Hi, We are going to be in several Pacific Island settings and might try to get some fish shots in shallow lagoons. Would it be worthwhile to buy a GoPro for this, or is there a better solution.

In my opinion, it depends on a few things.
The pros are the portability and ease of use. In good lighting conditions the video quality looks very good to me.
To me the cons are the low lighting noise and the wide lens. I don't like the wide lens for some stuff, but if you are very close to your subject it can look ok. Also the battery life needs to be considered. If you have to keep getting out of the water to change the battery, will this cause problems?
If you can afford it, I would go with a 5dIII in a housing, even a rental set. It just depends on your budget and what you plan to get out of it.
I live in Hawaii, and plan on getting the 4k model. The water is clear and lighting usually good here. Underwater, you will usually be close to your subject. I am still not sure if I will use it for stock or just fun family stuff.

I was very impressed by Hero3+ Black. Among others:

Thanks for the comments. We don't dive or often spend much time in tropical waters, so a housing for one of our other cameras would probably be overkill. I may try the Hero 3 just for fun and see what happens. Mary Lee
