...... if it is true that the BMCC 4k has a "global shutter" ... I think I will wait for mid 2014 to buy it. By that time all issues should be solved.......maybe the Lumix GH4 will be 4k ;-)

I know that a future (reasonably priced) DSLR-style camera will be 4K. That will be a killer product. Problem is, by that time, 4K might be as saturated as HD is now.

Heck, I bet the iPhone 7S will shoot 4K.

I would not be surprised at all to hear an announcement that the Canon 5D MK IV will be 4K at 30 fps.

I must agree that the FDR-AX1 is a less expensive solution than the BMCC.

My next question would be if the "industry" will accept the 150 mbs 4k video as acceptable for "broadcast quality".
My last question would be: "If all of us start uploading 4k files, will P5 be able to absorb all that additional storage required for 4k?

But a 4K DSLR will probably have a very compromised codec
RekindlePhoto 21 Oct 2013 22:44
As far as storage ... most smart artists are holding prices high enough to pay themselves and P5. As far as compression. Doesn't the newer 4K video cam use memory sticks or chips in most cases? I know BMC is using an SSD but most are not. There will possibly need to be a newer or modified codex. High quality video with too high compression is not a good marketing idea for the camera manufacturer. I don't see a problem with a 4K dslr, faster and bigger cards. Look at the BMC Pocket, level 10 SD cards mostly will not work in them, it takes a much faster more expensive card & battery.

Thanks odesign. Already saw the shots on youtube when searching for sample footage. Do you mind sending me a 'out of the cam' clip to test if my laptop can handle it? Would be great! Footage looks really good for the price category.
Xqd cheap? Not in holland:( 465,- for a 64 gb card.
Got mine including 2 32gb cards for 4500,-. Thanks again for the review!

I said "relatively cheap." Compared to my old P2 camera, QXD media is a bargain.

I got http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/880142-REG/Sony_qds64_t_64GB_XQD_Memory_Card.html for $250 USD. But it's now $290. It must have been on sale when I got it.

I grabbed a quick shot this morning on the way into work. But don't submit it as stock, that's what I'm doing with it.

I'll send you a site mail with a link to the raw of the above shot. I plan on shooting more this weekend.
