Mini Laptop for Travel Xfer?

About to take my yearly adventure trip, and will be hauling a mixture of cameras. I will need to transfer data for backup and card-clearing. I'm not a fan of having shots exist only on a single card.
Thinking of a Chromebook for about $249.
Don't want to spend more. Simple transfer utility is crucial. Email/web secondary. Video processing not necessary, but viewing is bonus.
Must be able to transfer from SD cards from the GoPro and the FS700, and also from the PIX220 drive, via USB, and this drive is formatted as a UDF volume.
These transfers will be to two separate portable USB drives.
Will Chrome OS do this? Or are there other/better/cheaper/smaller solutions?
