Canon EOS 5d

I'm totally sold. When comparing his D90 and the 5D MKII the 5D has much better clarity, color, depth of color. I really see nothing that really excites me about the Nikon. Now if I had thousands of dollars worth of Nikon lenses ....
.
I also like that the 5D is much smaller than the XH-A1 and easier to use without having people think that a movie is being made. I'm guessing the mirror is held up during the movie mode so it is silent?

Yes, that is one reason I'm looking at the 5d besides other HD cameras, the "stealth" mode. No body looks at what I'm doing when I have my Nikon D1X but everyone wants to know what I'm doing with the Sony FX1.

Delivery is still getting pushed back on the 5D, coupled to the price increase, even though I ordered back in September. I just canceled my order, sorry no guinea pig here.

Norman,
I'm so upset that you won't go out on a limb for us.
I mean, you need to take one for the team.. :-)

Actually, I didn't know there was a price increase. and maybe they are pushing the date back to correct some of the issues.
Well, I'll watch what happens after a few months that the thing is out.

I always think its best to wait a few months after a new release .... that is everyone should wait except for Normon who really needs to re-order today ;)

I have heard rumors of noise on the sensor and that is holding up shipment, that is why I was jumping from Nikon to Canon to get reduced noise.

Perhaps a new camcorder instead =:D

I think that red is making a lens mout for canon lenses that can replace the Arri PL mount on the RED models (they already have one for Nikor). The frame rate issue isn't huge if it is hackable, but the Red scarlett should be able to do 120 FPS at 2k, and still be in the raw format, so image adjustments can still be made after the fact without destroying any data. With the camera compressing the footage to MPEG, you are stuck with what you have. I think this camera has some cool features, but if you are shooting video more than stills I think the red should surpass it (if it can meet the goals they have set). I wonder about the on camera mic as well, it did metion that if you are in autofocus (which really shouldn't be very often), the mic can pic up the motor focusing. Moreover I wonder because of the size, if accesssing controls for adjustment while shooting would present a problem. The idea of stills is you usually have time to set your shot, you click the shutter when you are ready. Shooting video can require a lot of on the fly adjustment, I just wonder how the ergonomics will play into that. I am sure someone will contrive several different mounts for shooting handheld with it. But if the RED can take lenses you have in your bag (nikon or canon) I think it still gives you way more options. Although I am sure the needed accessories will push up the price.

I think the dust on the sensor could become a problem. I don't change lenses often on my Canon 5D mk 1 - I think I even got it from the factory with some dust on the sensor. Had it cleaned once professionally - and not all of it was gone. I always check and clean up my photos. This could be the only drawbacks to the making of videos. Full size sensor - full size dust spots....
