Once again AVCHD files

Hi there,

After a few years absence I am giving it another go with my Canon 5dII and my new Canon Legria HF G30 (Vixia to you).

Searches on the Internet and in this forum prove that I am not alone with the problems converting the AVCHD files. Really great that Pond5 now accepts the mts file format - I have a video pending. You maintain the original quality and video file size is small. The necessary cutting can be done in camera.
However, if I want to silence the clip (haven't seen any other smart method to silence the clip) or upload elsewhere this is not an option. It doesn't seem that the major video editing programmes do the conversion to MOV files satisfactorily - folks seem to suggest a preconversion of good quality before the last editing. I have seen NeoScene recommended in this forum - but the post was years old. Is it still so that NeoScene (somebody said it was freeware now??? - or perhaps GoPro Cineform Studio http://forums.adobe.com/message/4187129 - http://forums.adobe.com/message/4187129) are the best for this preconversion?

What do you actually do? Pain in the a.. to have a great camera and then produce a questionable result in the end due to conversion problems...

Thanks..

Kind regards,

Niels Q

I've used Adobe After effects render queue to export my AVCHD files. Quality was good. Used .mov with .h264 codec at 100%. 50fps level 5.1 at High.

You will find that to keep the clips compatible with all agencies conversion to PJPEG .MOV is still best. That way you can crop, stabilize, color correct, sharpen etc etc and not send straight out of the camera. Yes the original format is smaller but has it's disadvantages. The last few versions of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects handles Canon 5D MK II / III files just fine. Good luck.

Thanks both.

Just to be more explicit: only the AVCHD files from the video camera Canon G30 seem to be kind of problematic....
