Robb,

"Many of you are correct in stating that I would make a LOT more money just keeping my "secrets" to myself, and focusing on shooting more stock footage. But alas.....money certainly isn't everything. And writing a book has long been on my "bucket list." "

Is it possible there is no secret in your book?! Since we (some) read books of successful stock photographers already. There is really no big secret in your book, but rather your own story.

If I am in a position to hire a team to shoot stock for the market. I know what to do. I definitely will have my own e-Commerce to sell direct and not throught iStock or Shutterstock.

Still thanks for taking your time to write on the forum.

..."to some it sounds arrogant and pompous. But I'm OK with that, as long as it gets your attention."

The title is really unlucky and i fear it prevents a lot of interested newbies from buying. Nobody believes that it's possible to become a millionaire with stock videography.
Because i'm self author of a book and i know the costs and the difficult to promote and sell it as an unknown author i understand your position very well. Don't be annoyed about the harsch reactions here, it's human-like and we all don't want to hear that we are to stupid for this business. ;)
Maybe this is one more lesson and experience how destructive wrong titling can be, but i wish you success in selling your book!

....you are correct in stating there are no "secrets" in the book. There is no "magic formula" to guarantee sales in stock footage. What I do provide, however, is insight at to what I've done (and more importantly what other top contributors have done) that increase the likeliness that you will be able to make money in this field.

Many of these insights are probably already well-know by most seasoned producers. That said, when I asked some of the contributors who are even more successful than myself to read the manuscript of the book before it was finished, they even commented on how they actually learned quite a bit from it.

Take those comments for what they are worth.....

One final comment from me.

MOST of what I discuss in the book has absolutely NOTHING to do with hiring big crews or shooting with large teams. My BEST ROI consistently comes from shoots where it is just me, and assistant and a DSLR...with natural light.

That said, some of my largest PROFITS come from betting a bit bigger on certain shoots. Again, this isn't for everyone, but I think a lot of folks kind of like knowing what goes in to that model.....regardless of whether or not they ever decide to go down that path.

Thanks for the thoughtful exchange of ideas and advice.

Shoot what you love!
