Hi all,
I was searching for any info if Nikon D800 is a good choice for making videos and can't find anything valuable in the forum or even internet. I can see lots of other video cameras sugested but didn't find much info about Nikon D800. Does that mean it's not a good choice? Even Canon has more opinions... Sony, Panasonic are kings.
Why Nikon - you'll ask. I already do photography with Nikon system, so obviously would like to stay with the same system. At the same time video camera will be used for photos, as it's time to upgrade the old D700.
Thanks for any info in this case :)

I have no experience with Nikon, but I'll share with you a tip I learned that tends to work - when searching for whether a given device will work, don't search for good, search for bad ... (in this instance, search for Nikon D800 problems video ) if you can live with the horror stories, and/or understand what it takes to avoid them, well, you are well advised. Looks like this person has info ... banding and moire are the problems you'd most likely find, otherwise, enjoy! http://photo.vanderkolk.info/photo-article-nikon-d800-video-tricks.php

On Internet, MOST things are obvious - sometimes it's just a matter of whether it is worded in ways the Asker will understand or accept. That's why people still answer queries on forums.
You're welcome.

I don't own it but I saw some nice test clips. Actually I think it's also the only Nikon camera that let's you change aperture while in LiveView mode (though that may have changed since then). In other models you had to switch off Liveview, change the aperture and switch it back on.

It’s a great camera. I did a lot of clips with the D800 before I changed to the GH4 and I still use my Nikon lenses with a speed booster on that GH4. Maybe also a possible way for you!?

I would consider the D750 as well especially for video.Actually if i were to switch to Nikon, 750 would be the one.

In my experience, using a camera system that you are already familiar with will make up for a good deal of "better on paper". If you really get successful in video, you can consider buying a dedicated video camera later anyways. (and/or an external recorder.) The D750 would also be a great choice. I have a D800, and I honestly feel like the 36MP resolution is severe overkill for most stills, and takes up an absurd amount of card space in RAW. One more note, unless you are getting really good deal on it, I'd opt for the D810 over the D800, a little bit better video quality, plus 1080p60 and allows for a clean HDMI out while recording internally.
