Thank you, Pond5, for providing me with an amazing opportunity; an avenue for learning to be a videographer and filmmaker. In my past life, I was a graphic designer, but mostly (unhappy) programmer. I started with Pond5 in 2009 with a handful of time-lapse clips. Since then I have continued to improve my skills as a videographer, exercise my creative side, connect with nature and the world in wonderful ways, create a steady income stream, and help realize my dream of self employment.
Thank you for all you do!
To everyone at Pond5, and to all of my fellow media makers, creators, editors and producers, Thank You!

Hi EdgeofReason, It is great that you are happy enjoying your work, and I really do mean that but I just a quick question.
I don't mean to be negative in anyway just I'm considering uploading footage and trying to get a realistic view of what is involved and can you really make a living out of it or is it just wishful thinking for the vast majority !!
By your sales figures and amount of clips, I've done a quick calculation ( I am more than happy to be proven wrong) but 1463 sales over 6 years with an average purchase @ $50 - 50% fees = $36,575 / 6 years = $ 6095 ( approx £4170 per year) Minimum wage in Uk is approx £13,500.00 With the amount of effort and time needed to produce, expenses, travel, insurance, equipment, upload, rejections and waiting time is it really worth while. On a further note if the market ends up going the same way a stock still images there will be even more saturation forcing prices down. I am really not sure if this is a good business model, your thoughts or anyone else would gratefully received.

It's pretty hard to make a living from stock...not easy...if you can afford to quit your job and put all your time in stock maybe in few years you can have a good income but as you said if the market will follow photo side....

A quick calculation... to get just minimum wage I would need to shoot and upload footage for minimum 4 to 5 years (with little to no income), this is working full time at it !! Can anyone prove me wrong ...please... as I would really like to get involved but the figures just don't add up !!
