having a small portfolio justifies not getting sale emails.

Not getting a sale notification as nothing at all to with the size of ones portfolio. Not having sales notification checked in you preferences will effect not receiving an email of a sale.

oh i thought he meant he didnt get sales, not that literally he didnt get the sale emails (i thought he implied he doesnt have sales)

yeh i meant i didn't get a sale, it was weird because an item had a bin add and then a cart add and usually those come through

Only a small percentage of cart and bin adds result in sales. Many Artists track these stats ... don't waste your time. The only thing that matters is the actual sales. You will drive yourself crazy wondering why carts don't result in sales.

about 30-40% of cart adds turn into sales.
so in theory, if you have 3-4 cart adds (be they on the same or on different clips), it means one sale is on the way.
however, if you would put a big price on your clips, some might change their mind even though they carted it.
i think on a price around the average one, 3 carts bring a sale.
in my case i noticed that about 8-13 views translate into 1 cart add and about 3-4 cart adds translate into a sale. there are exceptions, but it usually happens like this (or at least it did before the new site). my prices are about 2-3 times higher than the advertised averages, on audio.
bin adds don't always translate to cart adds, so if you have a bunch of bin adds don't assume they are on the wayt to bring cart adds. however some bin adds translate directly into sales, but very rarely.
