Is the 4K useful

@OliverM I read the article first, great read and what you say too: 'human eyes have limits'

Below quotes of the article and the mail from Liam on the article is worth a read:

Back in the film days, cameras were relevant for decades, and most filmmakers didn’t need to obsess over their gear or worry that their work would lose relevancy because of the technology they were using. They focused on what mattered – telling a good story with great performances and entertaining an audience. And I think we’re finally starting to get back to that place…

At the end of the day, 4K is just a resolution format. It’s a great tool to have, and one that I use on many of my own projects – but it’s almost never mandatory.

Thanks Oliver, i enjoyed reading this.

pvreditor, yeah, I meant 4K. My major niche is archival film so it may (or doesn't seem) really worth in now or in some conceivable future to have it in 4K. The resolving original of a frame of 8mm, super 8 or 16mm film is debatable, but for the smaller formats those surfaces don't correspond to 4K resolution. As it is, I can only capture in 2K from the film chain and then upconvert to 4K which took a lot of processing time. I just wasn't seeing any sales or buyers searching for the clips so the bottom line is why do it? My new religion is variety and volume. 4K was getting in the way.

I´ve always had mixed feelings regarding 4k. I´m busy with CGI animation mostly and 4k is really a drain on hardware render times and additional workload. In most cases I need to hire a render farm to get 3D animations being rendered. Of course, the pricing of 4k footage is much higher compared to HD material. However, the market of 4k animations seems very small to me. Yes, I sell a 4k animation here and there and that´s very good. But most demand seems to be HD material, still, I think. Another overestimated market seems 360VR to me. This requires immense hardware requirements for 3D rendered material. I was able to render a few. However, this market seems very, very small. I hope markets regarding 4k and 360VR will improve soon, especially because HD collection seems overabundant.
