Anyone use a canon 600D ?

I am seriously thinking of purchasing a canon 600D for mainly video work but also to improve on my Nikon D200 for images.

I just need to know if anyone is using the Canon kit lens for video and finding the quality good ? Photos ? Also, what kind of memory card size do you find you most need as I haven't got a clue.

Finally, I am UK based and if anyone knows good deals I will be grateful.

Thanks

I would recommend looking towards a Canon 6D (or 5Dmiii if you can afford it.). Full size sensor, does video and gives photo quality beyond D200 - but the D200 is awesome too. Use the D200 for time lapse if you want to generate video as yet another option. The T series from Canon are nice backups, but the T3i didn't really bring anything new to the table from the T2i in regards to quality, just a nice flip out preview screen. The real cost will be the glass.

The 6D doesn't come near the quality in video as the 600D does looking at reviews. It's very expensive too and that is without the lens.

I use eos5dMkII, and few weeks ago i bought eos600 as well. my first impressions are - for that (cheep) money - camera is excellent. kit lens (is II ) in my opinion is useful for video and for images as well (if you do not have better lens, or you can not afford better one at the moment). image quality is far beyond d200 (i had d200 and d3 as well). controls are not so logic and intuitive as they are on d200, but hey - that's canon :)
*try to find something used on e-bay if money is issue. or buy used from someone you know. i bought mine from friend of mine +50mm/1.8 +spare battery for EUR 350. 7000 shutter actuations.
as i saw on my other friend's - i do agree with vader's comment above - pretty the same camera as 550, only difference is in lcd monitor. also magic lantern firmware is available for 600d, with lot of nice options that usually are not on manufacturer's firmware.
hope this helps.

Thanks, yes that was very helpful. Can you recommend the best type of memory card to have for video ?

First time I borrowed Wifey's T2i to shoot video it kept stopping recording every few seconds. Bummer. Slow card. DON'T cheap out on cards. Class 10 cards! Use name brand cards. Pretty much doesn't matter which brand - SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar, etc. I've used them all and had the same occasional errors (lost a frame or two here and there, but never lost the entire contents).

Thanks again. Any ideal size of card most used ?

I use 16gb SanDisk Extreme 45 mb/s Class 10 in my T3i and T4i - Excellent Performance ;)

I use 32GB Lexar 1000x cards. Never had any issues with them on Canon 5DMk3. Shooting mostly in 1920x1080 in 30p but also some in 60p 1280x720 without any stops!
If you in for time lapse shooting 32GB cards are very suitable as you can shoot approx. 1200 pics in RAW on one card. This gives you nice leeroom and long time lapse scenes.

Marbury start with this card: It worked very well in my 550D
