reduced pricing for media older than 1 year with no sales?

I would like to recommend an option whereby we could offer a reduced price for any media that is older than 1 year with no sales. something simple where we can just opt-in and all media gets automatically discounted by 30% or 50% or whatever, no minimums.

once it has a sale, the media gets automatically removed from the program, because it would no longer meet the 0 sale criteria.

it gives a second chance to older media files that have been overlooked or forgotten.

also would be good for a bargain bin, or a sale promotion, etc.

I would like to reiterate that I am only referring to videos that have generated 0 sales and $0 in income, and that are unlikely to ever sell.

Why not use the check box in sale data that says FREE.

Why?

If i am looking for an aerial view of Colombo in Sri Lanka and it is priced at $50 it is still a lot cheaper to buy it than to go to Sri Lanka and shoot it myself.

You may have a shot of Columbia for sale at $1 but it is no good to me.

Why discount, vintage footage sell yesterday, today, tomorrow and future. People don't eat less, live less with the time? With more contributors like yourself, we will all be starving not tomorrow, but today.

With the millions of choices dropping price on year old does not make sense to me. No one should expect to sell every clips on a yearly bases and may no matter what the price never sell. I have found that new clips seem to take longer to sell. It takes time for Google to crawl all of them. My old clips continue to sell at a faster pace than new ones even though I feel the new ones are better quality. So I do not think older clips are "forgotten" it's all in the need of the buyer and real or perceived value.

It doesn't make sense to me and overall i guess it won't work because most of the customer in "my opinion" search by "most downloaded" and these clips would stay at the end of the rank anyway...

Wonder how low you can go when you are already priced your clips on the bottom!
Summer Sale, Autumn Sale, Winter Sale and Spring Sale!! :D

@tiberio You sure can twist statements around to suite yourself. The following is the state made regarding low prices:

http://Average

" When I down priced a couple thousand clips for a long length of time I did not see any appreciable increase in number of clips sold but when they did sell the bottomline was reduced significantly. I also believe it's more of a subject matter than price. If a person is willing to send $30 on a clip that they need or want, a price of $45 will not scare them away. Same goes for a clip at $50 selling for $65. I do not believe enough buyers are searching for price to justify downpricing. I do believe enough buyers are searching for quality and subject to hold values. Both SS and IS believe the same, they have more stats than any of us and they raised prices. CC averages well of $60 for sales. I just do not believe buyers are bottom feeding on low prices enough to justify dropping prices. Too many of us are making good money on mid level or higher pricing to prove otherwise."

Next time get your facts straight.

tiberio, the best advice I could give you would be to raise your prices, not look for ways to lower them more.

Sales are really done on a needs basis, and with over 6000 clips your in a great spot to sell higher, not lower.

Do what you want, this is just unsolicited advice. My other bit of unsolicited advice would be to not post these ideas here in the forum. What do you hope to gain? Community support? I don't think I have seen a post you have made yet, were people rallied behind you. I'm not saying that to be rude, but just save yourself the back and forth and just send your ideas directly to Pond5 instead. You will save yourself all of this...

My personal opinion is right on board with Don (shocking right)... He is on point with what he is saying, some clips don't sell in a year, it does not mean it's due to the price. It just means it did not fit a need. Look at the industry and bundle deals and you will be able to see that even at low low prices it's mainly on a needs basis more then any thing. Especially where footage is concerned...

Based on the "tiberio-theory", price dropping causes agencies to falter and go out of business. There are certain fixed costs that both the artists as well as the agencies have. If everyone actually did this, it would yield a IS scenario as it would yield the same (lesser) returns for the artist, which in turn would make artists jump ship and hence devalue the agency.
